Burning The Boat is an album I released in 2021 under the artist name Crosstown Walkers. It marked my second independent release, following the EP Gemini, which my brother and I created under the name DD Canfield. Both records were entirely DIY, serving as my first ventures into self-producing, engineering, and mixing. However, Burning The Boat holds special significance as it was the first album to feature me as the lead vocalist, effectively marking my debut as a solo artist.

Like Gemini, Burning The Boat was born out of personal experiences with the complexities of a long-term relationship and its conclusion. The album extends into the existential side of romanticism while also exploring the effects of trauma. With most of my music, I strive to go beyond my individual story, delving into the shared human experience. This album's theme was heartache—its impact, the process of release and moving forward, and the eventual journey toward healing and acceptance.

This album also played a pivotal role in a mental health fundraiser I organized with Zachary McCreery in partnership with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). Over the course of 10 days, we raised more than $1,200 to support their mission through a digital campaign. The fundraiser was paired with a podcast series featuring conversations with business owners, musicians, artists, authors, and others who shared their own mental health journeys. The goal was to inspire open dialogue and encourage others to feel empowered to speak up about their mental health challenges.

Singles is a compilation of early releases that showcase the initial stages of my journey as a songwriter, producer, and recording artist. These tracks are moments of experimentation and growth as I worked to develop my sound and identity as an artist in my early twenties. Singles offers a glimpse into the earliest stages of my artistic development.

"Fox on Ridge" is a song I originally wrote back and demoed back in 2012. In 2016, I had the chance to record it, and two years later, in 2018, I completed the mixing process. During that same mixing session at Backroom Studios in Rockaway, New Jersey, with the help of Gabe Francis, who also sang on Fox on Ridge, I recorded "Lilies". That was ever before I started vocal training as a singer.

"Don't Let It Get Your Mind" was a spontaneous creation during a 2019 visit to a friend in Nashville. Using a small drum machine and a beat idea I had, my friend laid down the rhythm while I freestyled the rest of the song as an exercise to complete a track in just one day. What you hear is that result.

"Desiradatum" began as an introduction to another song I was writing at the time. In 2020, after moving to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, I decided to leave release this song as an instrumental, this song was nothing more then a snapshot of a spontaneous idea I had.

Delmarva (Live) is a collection of 12 original songs performed live throughout Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia during 2022 and 2023. This was one of my first summers performing almost 3–4 days a week, and it marked a pivotal chapter in my journey as a solo artist. This live album captures recordings of my original songs from that time; a period when I was finding my footing as a full-time performer. The Delmarva area will always hold a special place in my heart as the region where I first had the opportunity to consistently perform live and hone my craft. My typical three-hour sets were a mix of favorite covers and original songs, including many I was still developing. Some of these songs were unfinished and even improvised in the moment, with lyrics and melodies evolving naturally during live performances. Most nights nights I played to empty rooms and others just a few people, sometimes a crowd. Regardless of the setting, I tried my best. These songs are more than just recordings; they’re snapshots of a chapter in my life where I put myself out there as a solo artist and songwriter for the first time on a consistent basis. Delmarva (Live) is my raw reflection of those moments, and I hope it brings you into the spirit of the journey.
